Ronaldo tops Messi in earnings

Real Madrid's Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo was the best paid footballer in 2016-17, with 87.5 million euros ($95.3m) in earnings, ahead of his Argentinian rival at Barcelona, Lionel Messi (76.5m), according to figures to appear in Tuesday's edition of France Football.
Messi's Brazilian teammate Neymar is third with 55.5 million euros ahead of Real Madrid's Welsh forward Gareth Bale (41m) and Argentina's Ezequiel Lavezzi (28.5m), who plays for Hebei Fortune.

Neuer withdraws, Trapp called up

World Goalkeeper of the Year Manuel Neuer has withdrawn from the Die Mannschaft squad for Wednesday’s friendly against England in Dortmund (20:45 CET) and the World Cup qualifier in Baku against Azerbaijan on Sunday (18:00 CEST). The 30-year-old goalkeeper will be treated for calf problems at his club FC Bayern München. After consultation with goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke, Joachim Löw has decided to call up Kevin Trapp as Neuer’s replacement. The Paris Saint-Germain keeper has featured in the senior squad before, but is yet to win a Germany cap. Trapp, who played eleven times at U21 level, will join up with the squad today in Kamen close to Dortmund
